Colston Hall receives green light for transformation

Planning permission has now been granted for the £48.8 million transformation of Colston Hall. Today, Bristol Music Trust, the organisation that runs Colston Hall, and Bristol City Council, who own the building, have announced the submitted plans have been approved and Bristol City Council has selected a preferred contractor to take the transformation plans forward. The approval from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, came after the venue received unanimous support from councillors in December to approve the ambitious plans.

Shake-on, a new way to connect at events

There are good business cards: wallet-friendly/unsmudgeable, and then there are lots of, less good ones. At best it’s all one-dimensional information though; you copy the mobile number, email address, LinkedIn/Twitter handle onto your device, quite often more than once, and your digital journey can’t start until you’re over that big fence. Very 20th century. Dutch tech company Shake-on has set about contemporising the business card, with its eponymous hardware. A wristband that gives and gathers contact details/social media hooks for wearers and exhibition/conference/event organisers.

uTRAC bringing new staffing app to Event Production Show

uTRAC are returning to the Event Production Show to preview some exciting new features for managing event staff through their workforce management application. Firstly, they will be launching the new uTRAC app which will available to download on iOS and Android. The uTRAC app is going to be a simpler way for event staff to get instant notifications about available work and changes to shifts already booked in their calendar, making communications through uTRAC even better.

Arena Events Group plc acquires GLD Productions Ltd

Arena Events Group expands its product portfolio with the acquisition of specialist furniture hire business GLD Productions. The largest UK owned event production supplier, Arena, has bought GLD Productions Ltd with all stock and staff being incorporated into the Group’s Spaceworks Furniture Hire division.

Victorious Festival raises over £155,000 for charity

Organisers of the UK’s biggest metropolitan festival, Victorious, are proud to have raised more than £155,794.87 for a number of local charities. Victorious Festival (24-26 August 2018), takes place on Southsea Seafront in Portsmouth and plays a key role in boosting the local economy as well as supporting numerous good causes and charities around the city and the world.

More than 100 people from the festival and events industry joined a panel of heavyweight creatives last week to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by festival organisers in 2018. The event, which was held at Bath Spa University as part of Bath Business School’s Creative Business Network series, was an opportunity for students and professionals to pick the brains of some the industry’s leading figures, including Doug Francisco, founding member of The Invisible Circus; Michael Eavis, founder of Glastonbury Festival; Phil Castang, director of creative learning and engagement at Colston Hall; and Judith Robinson, head of programming at Bath Festivals.
