Creative England invests £250,000 into Production Park development

Creative England has invested £250,000 into the development of Production Park, as part of an ambitious project to expand its offer. The facility, in Wakefield, is already a go-to location for the build and design of many high-profile music tours. It also has a keen focus on education. Created to train the next generation of live industry professionals, Backstage Academy currently delivers degree level education to students in Live Events Production, Live Visual Design & Production and Stage Management and is looking to expand its range of degree courses over the next couple of years.

ESSA launches online talent and recruitment hub

The Event Services and Supplier Association (ESSA) has announced the launch of its talent and recruitment hub, a permanent online repository of assets and collateral to support and promote the event industry as a career of choice for young people. Chris Criscione, ESSA Chair Events Industry Alliance (EIA) chair and managing director of Equinox Design, made the announcement, saying “Now everyone will have the material they need to make a compelling case for careers in the event industry. ESSA has invested in this initiative to help companies campaign and spread the word about the breadth and variety of the career paths in events."

Small but mighty EEF Venues takes the titles for five consecutive years

EEF Venues is celebrating its success in the BDRC Continental’s VenueVerdict Awards 2017 after it has been named Best Small & Medium Sized Group and Best Value for Money Group for the fifth consecutive year. The 2017 awards are based on 14,900 individual pieces of feedback received from 376 participating meeting venues and hotels in the UK and Ireland.

Sadness as Ellesmere’s Merefest festival is cancelled

Merefest, which was launched in 2013 as a free festival, has become a popular annual fixture. It brought a host of outdoor activities and live bands to Ellesmere’s Mere and Cremorne Gardens. But the festival lost funding from the Meres and Mosses Landscape Partnership Scheme last year, and ticket revenues at the 2017 event failed to raise enough money to carry on.

SK Events takes a stand against environmentally damaging plastics

SK Events, the company behind Liverpool Food and Drink Festival, Liverpool Spring Festival and Manchester Eats, has launched an initiative to keep its events free from any plastics that may be harmful to the environment. As part of the initiative, all restaurants, cafes, bars and producers across the three festivals are being encouraged to sign a pledge to only serve food and drink in containers that are biodegradable. Traders are also being urged not to use single-use plastic straws in drinks.

Easyfairs publishes Activity Report with record results and announces rebrand

Multinational event organiser and venue manager Easyfairs has published its 2016-17 Activity Report and, in the process, announced a rebranding. Henceforth, all of the group’s activities will come under the umbrella brand Easyfairs. Previously the group was known as Artexis Easyfairs, with the venue side of the business (in Belgium and Sweden) branded Artexis and events in all countries branded Easyfairs.
