Meet In Wales is set to embrace one of its key markets as it looks to build on its long-standing relationship with US businesses at IMEX America next week. The North American market represents a huge opportunity for the meetings and events industry in Wales and the exhibition will see the destination supported by four partners to take advantage of increased global focus on Wales.

As part of its attendance at the event, Meet In Wales will continue its focus on the field of Life Sciences, one of the growing sectors in Wales, with academic and corporate communities and research centres that influence scientific knowledge and behaviour around the world.

Meet In Wales will also be teaming up with partners ICC Wales, The Celtic Collection, the Orchard agency and Destination Cardiff, who will demonstrate some of the best venues, destinations and creative agencies that the country has to offer. Together, the businesses will also build on the enormous rise in profile that the destination has experienced off the back of high-profile projects such as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham Football Club endeavours.

“There has never been a more exciting time for Wales to be coming to the US. As a country we have always had an affinity with people in North America and our profile hasn’t been higher,” commented Heledd Williams, Head of Business Events at Meet in Wales. “Thomas Jefferson always said that the Welsh ‘make great Americans’. He always commended us on our ability to bring trade with us, and I like to think that’s what we’re doing this week, not just for the US but all the international businesses we’ll be meeting.”

“Since then, Wales has continued to have a similarly positive impact on the world, with global Welsh continuing to build businesses, trade, and influence,” continues Heledd. “It’s in this spirit we’re really looking forward to connecting with our peers around the world and presenting yet more reasons why Wales can provide that mix between a striving global business community and a warm and welcoming destination for events,” concluded Heledd.

Danielle Bounds, Sales Director, ICC Wales said: “Wales has benefitted from being showcased on the big screen through the likes of TV shows and films including Welcome to Wrexham and His Dark Materials, so it is an exciting time to be exhibiting at IMEX America for the very first time. Earlier this year we released our report Event Power – A Force for Good, which demonstrates the impact that events have in driving social and economic change within local communities and destinations. I’m looking forward to discussing this further with the North American and wider-international market as well as promoting our award-winning venue at ICC Wales.”

Rachel Phillips, Sales Director, The Celtic Collection said: “Our small country has a lot to offer to the international market from its beautiful landscapes and outstanding local produce to world class venues and hotels. The Celtic Collection has a vast offering from its iconic 5-star Celtic Manor Resort to its luxurious Cardiff city centre property, The Parkgate Hotel and the quaint Newbridge on Usk; there is something to suit any budget and needs. I can’t wait to introduce the international market to our properties at IMEX America and continue to showcase our stunning country.”

Faye Tanner, Head of Business Events & Commercial Partnerships at City of Cardiff Council added: “I am really pleased to be representing Cardiff, Wales’ capital city, at IMEX America this year.

Cardiff is a vibrant destination for business events with a mix of venues for meetings and memorable delegate experiences. With a compact, walkable city centre and waterfront location, Cardiff’s culture, fascinating heritage and exciting sports are key strengths which can be incorporated into a conference programme.”

Orchard director Jim Carpenter said: “Orchard provides a fully integrated event and destination management solution worldwide, delivering high quality bespoke VIP guest experiences wherever we work. As a proud Welsh company we love to promote Wales’ rich offering to the international business visitor, and aim to help  all organisations looking at Wales as a destination. We’re thrilled to join Team Wales at IMEX US for the first time to show just what we can do.’’
