Leading advisers to the global events industry, AMR International, has released its annual “Top 20 exhibition organisers”: the global ranking based exclusively on exhibition organising revenue. The ranking takes into account 2018 revenues and 2019 M&A activity to date.

The top four positions have not changed since the previous AMR Top 20 was issued this time last year. Informa Markets retains the top spot, followed by Reed Exhibitions in second spot and Messe Frankfurt in third. Meanwhile, Clarion Events continues consolidating its position in fourth spot.

New entrant, Messe Nüremberg, benefitted from record financials in 2018 to enter AMR’s Top 20.

Tarsus has fallen out of the AMR Top 20, however, following Charterhouse taking it private earlier this year and recent spate of acquisitions, it will be interesting to see how it develops in the next 12 months.

Denzil Rankine, executive chairman, AMR International said, “Over the past year, industry consolidation at the top has continued with Reed Exhibitions acquiring Mack Brooks early 2019, bringing it closer to Informa Markets. ITE has integrated Ascential Events and rebranded as Hyve Group.

“Transaction multiples are currently high, and we expect continuing M&A as many private equity firms are keen to enter the exhibitions market.”
