Daria Makieieva, an Art Director and Creative Producer in international event design, has introduced a codified methodology that systematises how creative concepts are developed, documented and delivered for live events. Rooted in choreography, scenography and production management, the framework aligns emotional intent with operational precision and is now being taught to in-house and agency teams.
Makieieva’s approach starts with the audience journey and maps it to concrete production artefacts: a concept deck; scaled zoning and guest-flow plans with ADA-aware routing; signage/wayfinding hierarchy; run-of-show and cue sheets; and weather/contingency protocols. The goal is to deliver experiences that are emotion-led, accessible and safe, while producing measurable outcomes such as dwell time, participation in activations and programme discipline.
“Great events respect time, attention and safety,” said Daria Makieieva. “When story, circulation, pacing and visibility work together, emotion follows – and with it, the outcomes that matter.”
Methodology at a glance
Phase 1 – Discovery & Story
Define objectives, audiences and sensitivities; establish the “return on emotion” (what attendees should feel and do).
Phase 2 – Experience Architecture
Create the creative thesis and preliminary site plan; calibrate look & feel to budget and venue realities.
Phase 3 – Technical Design
Produce scaled zoning/circulation, signage hierarchy, run-of-show and cue sheets; issue vendor briefs for décor, rentals and scenic.
Phase 4 – Build & Show
Supervise install, lead creative show-calling on site and complete a post-event debrief so the format can scale or travel.
“The deliverable is a playbook: what to build, where to put it, how to pace it, and how to pivot under changing conditions,” Makieieva added.
Profile: Daria Makieieva
Makieieva operates at the intersection of creative authorship and operational discipline. Beyond décor, she defines a project’s sensory thesis (colour/material palette, lighting mood, sound cues) and couples it with the technical spine – circulation, ADA-aware routing, line-of-sight priorities, signage systems and contingencies.
Born and trained in Ukraine, Makieieva built a career across Eastern Europe, Switzerland and the United States, bringing multicultural fluency to audience experience. Early ballet training informs timing and stagecraft; later work in hospitality and cultural programming sharpened her documentation standards and leadership of cross-functional teams.
Her professional work has been profiled by national and regional media in Europe and the U.S., reflecting independent editorial interest in her approach to art direction and creative production.
Since early 2025, Makieieva has offered workshops and small-group clinics translating her methodology into daily workflows for event, experiential and venue teams. Sessions cover zoning and egress, signage hierarchies, cueing discipline, and safety-forward design for family-friendly and mixed-ability audiences, with checklists, example layouts and before/after case notes.
In engagements, Makieieva typically serves as Art Director / Creative Producer, leading concept development, experience architecture, vendor briefs and on-site creative show-calling. She collaborates closely with production management, safety officers and venue teams to maintain design intent while protecting compliance and guest comfort.
Makieieva’s projects emphasise measurable results: clearer guest navigation, reduced queue friction, longer dwell times at partner touchpoints and smoother programme pacing, alongside qualitative feedback from families, VIPs and brand stakeholders.
Training & materials
Makieieva’s training offering includes:
- Playbook templates (concept deck structure, zoning diagrams, cue sheets and signage hierarchy).
- Safety-forward checklists (egress, visibility, heat/wind considerations, bike/ped segregation where relevant).
- Case notes showing how emotion-led design translates into participation, satisfaction and operational efficiency.
