Museum of London

The Museum of London, based near the Barbican and St Paul’s, tells the story of the capital from its first settlers right through to modern times. Opened in 1976, the museum vividly tells the story of the city and its people, and with over 6,000,000 objects in their collection, it holds the largest archaeological archive in the world.

Whether you require a conference room for 230 delegates with break out spaces, a spectacular venue for evening events or are looking for a truly memorable setting to exchange your vows, the museum has a unique space for any occasion.

Arriving in the striking Entrance Hall, perfect for drinks receptions, guests will be greeted by welcoming hosts before being shown through to the galleries within the museum.

The award-winning gallery spaces in the Museum of London are incredibly versatile and can host all manner of events, from receptions for 200 guests to intimate dinners for 20. Guests will be enchanted with the peaceful, starlit ambience of the 17th century Pleasure Gardens, or can dine next to iconic installations such as the original Art Deco lift from Selfridges in the People’s City gallery.

The museum is also home to the spectacular London Ellipse Hall, ideal for receptions for up to 1,000 people – guests can choose from endless display possibilities on the 48-metre long circular LED ellipse suspended from the ceiling, from a twinkling chandelier to bespoke commissions with interactive social media options.

As well as conferences and receptions, the Museum of London has a wedding license, allowing them to perform civil ceremonies and host wedding receptions – couples can exchange their vows in the tranquillity of the Garden Room, the splendour of the Pleasure Gardens or the modern London Ellipse Hall. Able to accommodate guest lists of 10 to 350, the museum not only offers the most amazing backdrop for a wedding but also has a team of expert wedding co-ordinators who will make sure that every detail of the venue is perfect for a couple’s special day.

Museum of London Docklands

The sister venue to the Museum of London, the Museum of London Docklands is a historical venue set against the backdrop of the futuristic Canary Wharf. Built in 1802, the Grade I Georgian warehouse charts the history of the London docks. Here, contemporary fittings feature alongside original Caribbean pitch pine columns and floors, offering a unique setting for meetings, conferences, product launches and weddings.

The Museum of London Docklands is home to a series of astounding gallery spaces, including the newly refurbished Wilberforce Room, a flexible space with capacity for up to 273 seated guests and state of the art audio-visual technology, making it perfect for conferences and presentations. Similarly, with exposed brick walls and original pitch pine columns, the Muscovado Hall is a striking space, accommodating up to 200 seated guests, and with morning availability between 7-9.30am, it is a show-stopping venue for a breakfast event.

Telling the story of London and the many transformations of the docklands, up to 120 guests can dine in amongst the artefacts in the No.1 Warehouse gallery, where the history of the building is brought to life. Object handling and actors can be included in event hire to create fully immersive events, guaranteed to be remembered for years to come!

As well as large scale events, the Museum of London Docklands is also well suited to smaller events, with spaces such as the Boardroom, situated on the first floor with views out to the towering Canary Wharf skyline – suitable for dinners for up to 16 people, its peaceful location makes it a charming choice for more intimate events.

For events, the Museum of London Docklands also has its own dedicated events space – with a private entrance and direct views of West India Quay, imbuing the space with a distinct character and atmosphere, the Rum Store is perfect for a range of evening receptions, with seated dinners for up to 100 guests and direct access to the outdoor terrace making it ideal for summer parties.
