Part three of our Unpopular Opinion series suggests that we are on the verge of something big when it comes to blockchain technology. What is your opinion, and do you have your own unpopular view on a certain aspect of the industry?

In the next three years, 80% of business event professionals will be utilising blockchain technology across their event portfolio enterprise, be it via their own tech or tech provided by a third-party solution provider.

For example:

Digital marketing: current and prospective attendees will be able to manage how they receive marketing messages via a decentralised communication platform connecting the event owner and attendee/prospect; one that can be documented and verified.

Registration: attendees will manage their own event ticketing and registration profile.

Housing: hotel agreements will become smart contracts on the blockchain, eliminating any ambiguity and enabling hotels to easily decipher what the organiser requires in their contract.

Education: all certification credits will be tracked in a uniformed fashion.

Third-party provided tech: airline and hotel loyalty rewards programme transactions will be easily accessible and recorded.

Lastly, accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment will be widely embraced, like today’s PayPal, Venmo and CashApp.
