In an industry first initiative, youth charity The Prince’s Trust – founded in 1976 by HRH The Prince of Wales to help vulnerable young people get their lives on track – is partnering with corporate event crewing company, Crewsaders, and global creative communications group, DRPG, to encourage young people to gain valuable insight and experience in the events industry.

The programme encourages young people to explore their career options within the events and stage crew sector, while also increasing their skill-base, enabling them to acquire experience within a competitive industry.

Get into Events with Crewsaders, is a four-day programme, which will get underway on Tuesday 13th August with an induction day, this includes communication skills sessions, team activities and company overviews. Candidates will be split into teams for a friendly competition, accruing points throughout the day for demonstrating desired attributes while performing the tasks.

The second day concentrates on practical skills, offering hands on experience in the studios of DRPG’s global HQ in Hartlebury, Worcester. Throughout the day working with events experts, candidates will have the opportunity to get a feel for the dynamic industry and test their skills in practical tasks.

The third day will see candidates back at The Prince’s Trust offices in Birmingham for interviews where they will be assessed for roles within Crewsaders. Candidates will receive constructive feedback on their performance and could be offered roles within the organisation based on their engagement throughout the programme and the interview process.

Regardless of the outcome, all candidates will receive positive, constructive feedback, certificates for completing the programme and the opportunity to attend a celebration event, attended by family and friends.

Successful candidates will attend an ‘Enterprise Day’, an internal seminar which will effectively show them how to set themselves up as self-employed work ready.

Jez Light, DRPG’s head oflLearning and development commented: “It is fantastic to be involved in such a worthwhile programme, opening the door of our industry to people who might not otherwise get the chance. This is a great opportunity for us to support our local community, something that we do with pride. We are excited to be hosting the practical skills day and look forward to meeting some potential future industry stars.”

Tom Barlow, Crewsaders Partnerships co-ordinator stated: “We are extremely proud to be launching the first ever events partnership with The Prince’s Trust and DRPG. There are not many work sectors that give you such a holistic insight into the varied work within that industry than that of crewing for events. We champion our people above all, so investing in learning and development and mentoring talent through initiatives such as this is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved.”

Georgia Patterson, Prince’s Trust executive, Birmingham said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in forging a career within the events and stage crew industry. We’d love to welcome unemployed young people or those not in education, to what could be the start they need to kick start their future employment.”
