SXSW GO, the official app of South by Southwest (SXSW) has been named “Best Event App” in partnership with Eventbase at the 2018 Event Technology Awards. Powered by Eventbase, SXSW GO is the must-have app for attendees at the massive SXSW event taking place in Austin, Texas in March every year. The 2018 event had over 8,000 sessions across 600 venues.

Eventbase and SXSW have partnered together since 2010, each year releasing innovative new features to help attendees navigate the massive event, plan their time, discover new content and connect with other attendees.

Boosting attendee experiences

In 2018, Eventbase launched two new event technology features in the SXSW GO app to further help attendees maximise their time at the event.


The Event Status feature let attendees check how full a session was before they arrived. Using a red-yellow-green system, Event Status dynamically indicated when a session had room, when it was filling up and when it was at capacity.

SXXpress (South by Express) Passes allowed certain badgeholders to request priority access for music festival showcases and film festival screenings, and receive confirmation within the app. For the first time, attendees could request these in the app, saving attendees time by reducing the need to line up to pick up passes on site.
