Technical production specialist, Universal Live has pledged to recycle 100% of carpets used at their events by the end of 2019.

Following an assessment on their green credentials and how the business directly impacts the environment, the team at Universal Live identified event waste as a key area that they could improve in.

The forward-thinking company who already actively dispose of technical equipment through the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) process; Universal Live has committed further with their promise to send 0% of their event carpets to landfill by the end of this year.

To this end, they partnered with industry leaders Carpet Recycling UK, a not-for-profit membership association who work with companies to divert carpet waste from landfills, providing viable solutions to businesses across the country. Set up in 2008, Carpet Recycling UK has increased diversion rates from 2% – 44% by 2018 diverting over one million tonnes of carpet waste; this is the equivalent to 57,000 football pitches.

Neil Clappison who spearheaded this project commented: “It’s always good to ask “how can we do this better?”, and “are we doing enough?” When we looked at our sustainability credentials, and the impact our industry makes on the environment, there was one obvious thing we could easily change that would make a big difference – our event carpets. With a little research, we were delighted to find www.carpetrecyclinguk.com. Before we had even joined their association, they were giving us contacts and advice on how we can achieve our target of 0% of our carpets sent to landfill, which we aim to achieve by the end of 2019.”

In addition to committing to recycling their carpets, Universal Live have already sourced carpet products which are 100% recyclable to offer their client’s.
