Losberger De Boer has recently constructed over 2000sqm of event space for the Icons of Rugby 2018 – a unique golf event bringing together some of the real icons of rugby.

This is the first of three events that the temporary structure specialist will be working on in the Icons series, which will also include Icons of Football and Icons of Cricket in 2019.

Hosted at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, Icons of Rugby saw over twenty stars play in a Ryder Cup style team format with the southern-hemisphere competing against the northern-hemisphere.

At this year’s competition, Losberger De Boer constructed its massive Jumbo Hall to house the event’s hospitality facilities which included a fine dining restaurant and gin tasting experience.

The structure’s minimal internal supports ensured optimal use of the area and provided an unobstructed event space. The building was also fitted with a built-in ventilation system to create a more comfortable indoor climate for guests.

Tom Brookes – CEO and Founder of Iconiqe said:

“The Icons series is an unusual sporting event format; taking leading sports personalities from their natural sporting environments and then asking them to compete against their peers on the golf course. The players are all fiercely competitive which only adds to the excitement.

“We needed an event venue that could adapt to our requirements and a supplier who could provide advice on how we could creatively get the most out of our hospitality areas – and that’s exactly the service we received from the Losberger De Boer team. I look forward to seeing what else we achieve over the next two Icons events.”

Despite its size, the flexible design of the structure meant the team was able to complete the build in just five days and dismantle it in under 72 hours, ensuring there was minimal disruption to Buckinghamshire Golf Club outside of the competition.

The adaptability of the Jumbo Hall meant it could also be repurposed for the various hospitality events on offer, such as Paul Carrack playing live in front of a select group of only 350 guests on the Sunday evening of the event.

John Cochrane, Sales Director – Events commented:

“This is the first of three Icons events that Losberger De Boer will be providing structures for, so we were delighted to get involved in the early stages of this innovative sporting event.

“Our excellent relationship with the Buckinghamshire Golf Club helped with the smooth running of this project and allowed us to build an event space that delivered a memorable experience for everyone who attended.”

The team also provided various smaller ancillary structures, as well as an outside terrace that was surrounded by large glass panels. The location of the terrace overlooked the river and provided spectators with a picturesque view across Buckinghamshire Golf Club’s grounds.
