Vince Power, the organiser of Liverpool Feis, has announced with “deep sadness” that poor ticket sales have forced him to cancel the festival.

Planned for Saturday 6th July 2019, the festival was a celebration of Irish music and culture in the UK and was due to take place at Liverpool’s Pier Head.

In a statement on the festival’s website and Twitter page, Power apologised to all the fans and musicians who planned to attend the event. He said: “With a shortfall of £400,000, the majority of which has been borne by me personally, it is not possible to carry on.”

Power, the self-made music mogul, lost £9m when his company, Vince Power Music Group, went under in 2012. Artists, alongside the Kent Police, who attended Power’s Hop Farm Festival that year were not paid, bringing the festival’s debts to a staggering £4.8m.

Fans of Liverpool Feis have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment with some describing the cancellation as “gutting”.

Many festival-goers from 2018 expressed their delight with the event and commented on the official Twitter post about their excitement for 2019. Acts at last year’s event included Imelda May, The Chieftains and Shane MacGowan.

Though Power has advised ticketholders to contact their point of purchase regarding refunds, many are taking to the Twitter post to express their frustration at lack of support and repayments.

Universe, the festival’s event hosting platform, has apologised in a comment on the Twitter post for the delays and thanked fans for their “continued patience”.
