To meet changes in PMR446 channel allocation throughout Europe this year, Icom have updated versions of their best-selling professional IC-F29SR and IC-F29DR licence free walkie-talkie radios. The new versions, called the IC-F29SR2 (analogue version) and IC-F29DR2 (digital version) are virtually identical to their predecessors regarding features, ease of use and performance. Both models provide a great licence free solution for those businesses and organisations that want short range communications without the expense of mobile phones.

From the beginning of this year, the 446.1- 446.2 MHz frequency band has been designated for use by PMR 446 licence free radios across Europe in line with Harmonised European Standards EN 300 296-2, EN 300 113-2 and EN 301 166-2. The IC-F29DR2 and IC-F29SR2 will have these new channels built in.

Both the IC-F29SR2 and IC-F29DR2 offer excellent performance and long battery life, offering flexibility for a wide range of industry and business sectors. The radios are also rated waterproof so they are robust enough to be used outdoors. In addition, the IC-F29DR2 offers a higher degree of digital encryption and digitally enhance audio quality.

A wide range of accessories are available for both models, including VOX headsets for hands-free operation.
