GL events UK has underlined its support for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships through a partnership with Queen Margaret University to supply volunteers to the Championships. The partnership formed part of the bid process, and underlines a growing trend for production contractors to support positive impacts from events in the local community.

Queen Margaret University has a strong event management course and the initiative will see two of the students on the course deployed as part of the ’Championships volunteer programme. GL events is providing further support to the students by offering behind the scenes tours of the event infrastructure.

“Glasgow 2018 is keen to maximise the legacy impact of the Championships in the local community, and encouraged any pitching business to demonstrate how they could support this objective,” commented David Tunnicliffe, Commercial Director, GL events UK. “Our partnership with the university is just one of a number of initiatives we’re taking on throughout the Championships. For us, this is part of a really positive trend in the events industry and one we’re keen to support.”

GL events UK & Field & Lawn Ltd are confirmed as the Official Overlay Supplier to the Glasgow 2018 European Championships this summer. The partnership was agreed following a competitive tender by a joint venture between the global event experts and Field & Lawn Ltd., an Edinburgh-based tent and marquee specialist.
