The Prime Minister, Theresa May, congratulated Farnborough International on its new Hall 1, describing it as “an outstanding building…befitting for a world‐leading air‐show.”

Mrs May opened the Farnborough International Airshow which saw $46.4bn in orders announced at the end of the first day.

Michael Watton, Venue Director said: “This year’s Airshow has attracted its most global attendance ever. Representatives from more than 100 countries are here to do business and our new Hall 1 is at the centre of it. Every corner of the 20,000sqm hall is being used – whether that’s in the media centre, which is hosting around 1,500 journalists, through to the 12,500sqm exhibition hall with more than 100 companies busy doing business.”

The £30m purpose‐built venue opened in March this year. Large enough to accommodate up to 10,000 guests, it represents an important step forward for the Airshow and indeed Farnborough International as it asserts itself as a year-round events venue.
