London’s event technology sector showed its economic potential and reach during last week’s London Tech Week festival, with scores of event professionals turning out for Event Tech Lab’s annual celebration. Event professionals from agencies, the corporate sector and a variety of technology companies were treated to an open air BBQ. The yearly celebration sponsored by IBTM World included entertainment and of course the usual energetic networking that event professionals are well known for.

The event kicked off with attendees having the opportunity to try out Houston-based software company Zenus Biometrics facial recognition technology. The technology – linked to the Ya Ya Regie and Mitingu platforms – allows a 7-second check-in to speed up event entry as well as add another layer of security for events. Evolution Domes was on hand with one of their structures in case of rain, but the weather held offering attendees a cool experience with sunny intervals.

Senior Sales Executive at IBTM World, Shane Lewis welcomed the technology companies and other attendees to the event; with him announcing the launch of the IBTM World Tech Watch Award 2018 competition, for recognising innovative technology in the events industry. The competition is held each year at IBTM World and is open to technology companies from anywhere in the world; usually attracting over 60 entrants every year.

Acoustic guitarist Jamie Ferguson was on hand to provide light background music, playing contemporary hits from the 80’s and 90’s; and sponsored by Viva Live Music. Manning the bar were technology professionals Adam Parry editor of Event Industry News and Abi Cannons from Slido; both getting involved in tech heavy conversations with attendees whilst serving drinks. The ‘news-shots’ – popular with all attendees – was an opportunity to give a piece of news for a shot of tequila. This certainly got conversations and laughter going as some ludicrous as well as interesting news stories emerged.

Event Tech Lab will be back next year during London and Partners’ London Tech Week to celebrate London as a global centre for technology development and innovation in 2019.
