Introduced to the Festival and Future stage at last year’s Event Tech Live were Wayne Woodhead, CEO of IDE Power Systems, Iain Beath, executive director at Immersa Ltd and Nic Forsdike from Gofer, to discuss their roles in the not-for-profit, think-do tank, Powerful Thinking.

Introduced by Tim Benson, founder and production manager at SMART Power Ltd, the panel pooled their areas of expertise to discuss best practices to improve energy efficiency and sustainability at festivals.

Firstly, Wayne described IDE’s aspirations for decreasing diesel and carbon usage at festivals while still providing a reliable service and related its role in Powerful Thinking.

Describing the vast difference between festivals from decades ago to festivals now, Wayne explained that there is now a greater electrical demand which therefore has a greater impact on the environment. IDE aims to optimise the power assets and reduce the amount of diesel required.

Following this, Iain introduced Immersa as a team of “renewable energy specialists” dedicated to providing sustainable, affordable and reliable energy to commercial and industrial “permanent situations”.

Lastly, Nic explained that Gofer is a power generation and distribution company that works alongside clients to arrive at positive solutions for everyone involved.

Presenting examples of work at previous festivals, Nic demonstrated how he and his team have provided more sustainable solutions year-on-year, saving 45% diesel usage over a three-year period.

Lastly, Tim encouraged questions from the audience. Questions regarding generator requirements, monitoring traders and Powerful Thinking itself allowed the panellists to round their discussion to a close.

Event Tech Live, Europe’s only free-to-attend show dedicated to event technology, will return to the Old Truman Brewery on 6th-7th November 2019. To register for updates, please see here.
