EIA calls for a firm go date in an open letter to the Chancellor

The Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA), The Association of Event Organisers (AEO), and the Association of Event Venues (AEV) have jointly authored and sent an open letter as the Event Industry Alliance (EIA) to the Chancellor, emphasising the cliff-edge situation many event businesses currently find themselves in, and the importance of a fixed ‘go’ date to the future of the whole industry.

The letter highlights the success of the G7 event in Cornwall, noting that this colossal international event was able to go ahead, with all appropriate social distancing and infection control measures in place, thanks entirely to the event industry.

Urgent Questions in Parliament on Tuesday, June 22, showed that the EIA message is getting through, with demands for firm go date in the house. But with an industry still lacking any kind of government-backed Covid insurance scheme, a firm go date, or data from the Event Research Programme (ERP) that took place in the Spring, the frustration of MPs was evident.
