On June 6, 2019, EventsCase will be hosting a very special breakfast roundtable to cover all the important points around cyber security and data protection for events.

The safeguarding of attendee data has become an industry wide consideration, with recent estimates having the global cost of cyber attacks at $6 trillion by 2021. If realised, this would be double the $3 trillion calculated in 2015.

Large corporations, governments and corporate events are being viewed as key targets due to their storing of highly sensitive and valuable information. There is now a clear need to drive awareness around the topic of data security and promote some of the ways that events can tackle the growing threat of cyber criminals.

With that in mind, EventsCase CEO, Jose Bort, and Ruben Lopez, Pentester and Cyber Security Expert at EventsCase, are preparing to impart some of their own learnings in the realm of cyber security through a workshop in Islington, central London.

Roundtable attendees will hear of ways that criminals might harm their business before learning more about the methods of thwarting some of the most common attacks.

Getting the inside track

EventsCase’s roundtable promises an overview of the big problems that events might encounter when attempting to safeguard themselves from cyber criminals.

Jose’s introduction will centre on some of the ways that organisers are getting caught out by nefarious activity. This will include a demonstration of “social engineering” – recognised as one of the easiest ways of stealing data – which tricks people into surrendering their personal information, their bank details, or access to a computer.

Another key demonstration will cover the installation of malicious software, which makes it easy to gather passwords and other sensitive data.

Ruben will then explain some of the tools available to companies that need to guarantee a greater level of protection, with a particular eye on solutions for the events industry. His presentation will offer a comprehensive rundown of the aspects required for optimum safety, complete with a simulated “hack” of a website.

By explaining why events are targeted by cyber criminals and some of the methods of defending against them, EventsCase hopes to give attendees a better chance of keeping their data safe.

Event format

Recently, EventsCase has been hosting a series of workshops at its London offices, in which industry stakeholders have discussed current issues in the events, technology and security sectors. These have been incredibly well-received by delegates from companies such as Santander UK, Samsung, Odeon, Equifax, DMG Events and Green Power.

The latest event will centre around the growing problem of cyber security and data protection for events businesses. It will include breakfast and is completely free to attend. Follow this link to book your place.
