Completely Retail Marketplace have partnered with the #OneLess campaign and are set to remove single-use plastic from all their events from 2018 onwards.

Completely Events, the multi-award-winning organisers of the European property exhibition Completely Retail Marketplace (CRMP), have pledged to remove all single-use plastic bottles from their exhibitions in 2018.

The organisers, who had to dispose of over 8,000 single-use plastic bottles in 2017 will be removing all single-use plastic bottles from their six exhibitions this year. They will also remove straws as well as investing in fully compostable coffee cups. Any of the reusable bottles left after the show will be taken away, cleaned and reused at future events.

The initiative will begin at their first exhibition on the 24th April 2018 at Old Billingsgate Market. Each delegate will receive a reusable water bottle on arrival and there will be water coolers placed around the venue.

Landsec, the UK’s largest listed property company and a longstanding exhibitor at CRMP, will be sponsoring the initiative at both the London events this year.

Tom Byrne, Sustainability Manager, Landsec, said: “Landsec are proud to lead the real estate sector in sustainability and are pleased to ensure that single-use plastic waste from these events will be significantly reduced.”

It is estimated that there are more than 150 million tonnes of plastic in the ocean today. The campaign #OneLess which was set up by ZSL London Zoo in 2016 is reducing ocean plastic pollution by creating a ‘refill revolution’ in London and ending the use of single-use plastic water bottles.

#OneLess is a collective movement of pioneering and innovative individuals, communities, businesses, NGOs and policymakers. Together we are working to transform the city into a place where single-use bottled water is a thing of the past and where ‘refilling’ rules.

Rebecca Sawyer, Events Manager of Completely Events, commented on the new initiative:

‘’Since the launch of Blue Planet II, the single-use plastic debate has been huge within the media and has been something I have become increasingly aware of. I have read an awful lot on the impact of single-use plastic over the last few months and I made the decision to remove all the single-use plastic bottles from our events moving forward.

We are delighted that Landsec have agreed to sponsor the initiative at our London events this year and are committed to reducing single-use plastics across their portfolio. We hope that the example we set at our events is something that can be passed on throughout the whole sector”
