The All Party Parliamentary Group for the Events Industry (APPG) has announced it will hold a series of Evidence Sessions on the UK Events Sector.

The first session, which will take place in Parliament on Monday 18th July and be attended by members of the APPG and other Members of Parliament, will seek to hear evidence from a number of individuals, including Minister for Tourism, Michael Ellis, Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Jeremy Rees, the Acting Chief Executive of ExCel London.

The first session will focus on three key areas;

  • The provision of venue infrastructure across the capital including the potential loss of the QEII Conference Centre as a consequence of the decant from the Palace of Westminster.
  • The uncertainties and opportunities Brexit has given the industry and how to move forward.
  • London’s role in delivering high profile events as part of the UK’s export strategy and how we might greater harness the capital’s soft power in securing international events.

James Heappey, Member of Parliament for Wells and Chair of the APPG said;

“The UK events industry is hugely important to the wider UK economy and Britain’s standing around the World.  Therefore, it is vital that London remains competitive and has the ability to host those events that we are seeking to attract to the UK, and this session will help us determine what needs to be done to ensure that.”

Subsequent sessions will focus on what support other areas across the UK need to grow their events business in those regions.
