1. Introduction

Despite the up and down UK weather in recent weeks, Spring very much seems to be in the air. As the weather makes an improvement, so does the level of enquires received by temporary structure suppliers.

The level of sophistication that is now achievable with temporary structures is astounding, as is the choice available to organiser of the type of structure the wish to deploy.

As we roll into the 2018 summer season, Event Industry News is pleased to present a dedicated feature on temporary structures.

We’ll look at the various types, and how to identify the most suitable option for your event. Whether it’s big or small, short or tall, we’ll give you the guidance you need to make the best choice possible.

2. Structures forged with passion, imagination and technical excellence

What are you looking for from an event supplier?

Passion – creating fully immersive experiences? Imagination – impactful events creating long lasting memories for guests? And technical excellence – a team which delivers world class venues?

Then you are looking for Losberger De Boer.

Passion – Photo London

Dubbed the ‘UK photography event of the year’, Losberger De Boer will return for a second consecutive year to build the Pavilion for Photo London at Somerset House.

To create the Pavilion, the team will build four of the Company’s Alu Halls providing 1200 square metres of gallery space, to exhibit artwork from over twenty international artists, galleries and publishers, plus the Champagne Bar.

The external walls of the Pavilion will also be adorned with specialist commissions. Last year, these featured an 18-metre mural created by renowned photographer, William Klein; and a unique installation of two individual 25-metre long murals created by Korean artists, Noh Suntag and Bae Bien, entitled ‘Dual reality’.

“Somerset House is an iconic venue providing a splendid backdrop for Photo London. To really add impact, we’ve created a bespoke PVC external lining featuring classic photographs to span the gallery’s entrance. I’m looking forward to it already,” adds Kate Knapp, Losberger De Boer Senior Sales Manager and in charge of the build.

Imagination – Pavilion Café at Belton House

Sometimes an event’s venue provides all the inspiration you need. At the National Trust’s Belton House in Lincolnshire, Losberger De Boer designed the Pavilion Café inspired by the lavish Victorian garden parties thrown by the Brownlow family.

The new visitor dining facility forms part of the National Trust’s year-long project to preserve the 17th century stables and coach house at Belton House which currently houses the onsite restaurant. Whilst restoration work is underway, guests will be able to have their traditional cream tea at the Pavilion Café.

Built using Losberger De Boer’s Alu Hall, the Café includes over 200 square metres of restaurant space and a wall-to-wall glass front, providing guests with an extended view of the house and gardens.

Technical excellence – RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which we’ve built for the last ten years, is event ingenuity at its best. The structure uses over 205 mesh roof panels to keep exhibits in prime Chelsea condition by helping monitor airflow and humidity throughout.

In total, the exhibition space spans 12,000 square metres, the equivalent of 240 London buses, housing 270 trade stalls and nurseries from all over the world.

Returning for the third time this year, the Losberger De Boer team will also be building the Ranelagh Restaurant using its Premier and Anova Vista structures. The restaurant, located next to the main showground, includes an outdoor terrace allowing guests to enjoy refreshments and respite from the busy Show.

Exceptional people – TransforMOTION by Bosch

Back at Somerset House and working with organisers JSO Productions Ltd, the Losberger De Boer team built this futuristic venue for TransforMOTION Bosch event overnight. Utilising the company’s signature curved roof Anova, the team constructed a fitting space to showcase Bosch’s latest transport innovations.

At Losberger De Boer, we love a challenge and have delivered some truly memorable structures for some of the world’s best-known events.

We’ve constructed venues to accommodate working steam trains – complete with tracks; we’ve housed planes at air shows; sailing vessels of every description at the UK’s biggest boat show; built structures at top global sports’ tournaments; and created vast show tents for world-renowned horticultural shows.

Our teams are acclaimed for their accessibility and commitment, going the extra mile and being there at every stage of the project, from initial design, through to construction and at the final clear up.

So, whatever your event, and wherever your venue, you can rely on our creative, hands-on and highly-skilled team of experts to deliver a fully immersive, professional experience.

3. Stand out from the crowd with Neptunus

At Neptunus we don’t simply supply you with additional temporary space; we make sure our structures are a true fit for your purpose – no matter how creative the solution needs to be.

We have invested tens of millions of pounds in developing new products, including our cutting-edge Evolution system, which has become the structure of choice at some of the world’s major events, such as the Olympic & Paralympic Games, Rugby World Cup, Tomorrowland and Farnborough International Airshow. The latest edition of the Evolution range is the circular Salacia, which is becoming a festival favourite, and for which we were named the Best Temporary Structure Supplier in the 2018 Event Production Awards.

All of our products are designed and manufactured in-house and are exclusively for our own use. We don’t sell to other tent hirers so our proposition for high-profile events is in itself unique. It’s why leading brands such as Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Vogue, MTV, The Royal Horticultural Society, Royal Ascot, Government bodies around the world and many, many more are turning to Neptunus.

Our UK division in Northamptonshire has gone from strength to strength as more clients are seeking our immensely creative and unique space solutions, as demonstrated recently at the Dinosaurs in the Wild 2018 experience. With no permanent building in the capital available to accommodate such a large show over a long period of time, organisers turned to Neptunus to create a bespoke venue where families can experience ‘live’ dinosaurs as they have never seen them before.

Originally founded in The Netherlands over 80 years ago, Neptunus remains a family-owned business with an enviable reputation for innovation, reliability and quality as an international supplier of high-class temporary structures. Structures come in all shapes and sizes with our creative designers constantly developing new, dynamic, cost-effective and eco-friendly styles to provide space solutions for every conceivable event. We offer the kind of fast, friendly and flexible service you would expect from a family business with core values of reliability and high-quality stamped on every single assignment we undertake.

Now we are making a name for ourselves by providing semi-permanent space solutions for a wide variety of business applications. Our temporary buildings provide a perfect, flexible solution for all sorts of applications, from sports halls and supermarkets to showrooms and airport terminals plus much more.

But don’t take our word for it; read at what some our event customers say…

National Eisteddfod of Wales, Head of Technical Operations:

“Our new temporary structure supplier, Neptunus have brought a fresh new look to the Eisteddfod with their modern and sophisticated product range. In particular, their Evolution system brings significant improvements to the environment within our main performance pavilion – enabling us to improve the all-important acoustics, lighting and flooring that is so vital to performers and for the audience’s enjoyment.”

Dinosaurs in the Wild, Event Manager:

“The temporary structure is really great. From the visitor’s point of view, there is no difference in the experience in this temporary building than for the events we staged at the NEC in Birmingham and EventCity in Manchester, it is just the same. The Dinosaurs in the Wild experience has been designed to be staged in different places and as the temporary structures are so good, it means that we have the ability to take the show anywhere.”

Managing Director, AV Matrix:

“It was great working with the Neptunus team. Our clients demand the best and this is certainly what we helped deliver! Having a great structure allowed us to create a fantastic event for our clients.”

4. G-SMATT provides a temporary stage for creativity that makes a lasting impression

Finding something that is both new, affordable and accessible but which also delivers a real ‘wow’ factor for your audience is not easy. With spectators and festival goers now accustomed to witnessing the latest in lighting and special effects, making your event memorable can be a challenge. But what if you could devise and deliver an innovative and interactive solution that could also be used across more than one venue.

This is just some of what can be achieved when using G-SMATT Europe’s G-Tainers. This exciting and innovative product is a combination of smart glass and a steel modular system that allows companies and brands to communicate and interact with their audiences in new and thrilling ways that utilise the latest rich media techniques and effects. The only limit is the client’s own imagination and creativity.

Similar in size to a standard shipping container, G-Tainer media displays are able react to their environment providing concert goers, sports fans, exhibition guests or shoppers with a unique and memorable media experience whilst also delivering an attractive “pop-up” space for sales, VIP entertainment, news and outside broadcast studios and many other applications. Whatever the message, it is conveyed in a truly memorable manner.

Beautiful compelling media content, advertising, information and interaction are all possible with G-Tainers or G-Walls, and their inclusion will bring your event to life, allowing you to incorporate stunning media displays. Your display could pulse in time to the music at your rock concert or mimic the movement of your customers in your latest pop-up shop. Alternatively, use them to display beautiful, eye-catching dynamic art, as a large scale platform for gaming or just use it to high impact advertising for your brand.

G-Tainers are available both to buy or for hire and G-SMATT’s experienced team of designers and installers will provide all the necessary support from transportation and installation through to assisting with the development of appropriate media content to creating a unique brand experiential installation. The units can be installed individually or combined in a multiple container construction for a larger pavilion or a ‘pop up venue.

Recently several of the units were formed into an eye-catching tunnel, in which guests were immersed in a creative light and media experience. Alternatively, individual panels of the smart glass can also be incorporated into the side of show booths or marquee structures to create eye-catching features.
